gavincrayston
I am receiving failure notices for an email that I didn't send which seems to indicate that someone is sending mail using my address. I have the originating IP address. What can I do to trace this and put a stop to it?
Miss Betsy
It is a common trick of the spammers to use forged email addresses in the From and return path. There is not much you can do to stop it. If you have the originating IP address, you can send a report to that abuse desk. However, to track them down and make them stop would probably take more time and money than you want to spend. You cannot report these emails through spamcop. The 'good' news is that almost everyone knows that this is a common trick and so no one will consider that you are spamming (except a few people who believe that Mailwasher really does send messages back to the spammer or that hotmail will block a spammer). Also, usually it only lasts a short time. Miss Betsy
