FixingEmail.org 2.0

FixingEmail.org

Recommended Posts

Today we launched an updated version of FixingEmail.org. Please take a look and give us your feedback.

The goal of the site is to bring all the good guys together and collaborate on how we can "fix email". The site is being populated with info every day, and we're looking for more and more ways to "Take Action". We have several projects that will go live on the site in the upcoming weeks, but please dont hesitate to let us know what's missing.

Of course all of us on this forum know the benefit to reporting spam to SpamCop, but what else can we do to spread the word? How can get our government to actually do something about the spam problem?

If you have any suggestions for the site or recommended tools, please email me: editor[at]fixingemail.org (or post comments here).

Thank you!

The Editor

I agree that unless consumers get involved in 'fixing' email, there will be very little change. IMHO, the use of blocklists (with a return message) is the 'natural' internet way to control spam. However, too many ISPs don't want to try to convince customers that Aunt Minnie's mail is being returned for a reason and that Aunt Minnie needs to 'fix' it.

Government should stay out of the solution.

Good Luck!

Miss Betsy

Main Page:

Some good and fun information very clean users will probably like it.

Take Action:

IMHO - The advertising banner on the right can be dumped. Spammers are trying to make enough money off users I don't think those that are trying to fight the battle should be either! I doubt if I am the only one that thinks that way.

Some good info! Good Job.

Resources:

Good info, nothing unique but good anyhow. The advertising banner on the right can be dumped. Spammers are trying to make enough money off users I don't think those that are trying to fight the battle should be either!

News Coverage:

Reviews:

Lots of 'old' information but could be useful. The advertising banner on the right can be dumped. Spammers are trying to make enough money off users I don't think those that are trying to fight the battle should be either!

About Us:

No comment - it is yours.

Like I said - to make a 9 you would have to have something unique, something that cannot be found on other sites. Your advertising banner takes away from everything else. Nothing new. (SOS)

I know it was a lot of work and you deserve a pat on the back for your effort but in my book it's still a 5.

Merlyn,

Couldn't agree with you more on the "you need somthing that cannot be found on other sites" and I hear you on the advertising dilema.

We're working on a pretty cool tool that will allow users to pull up "side by side" comparisons of anti-spam products as well offer their opionions on each product. We're going to start with the major hardware vendors (Symantec, IronPort, CipherTrust, etc...) and then expand to software solutions. It's in beta now and is pretty cool! Think "CNET", but for email only!

We're also considering an outlook plugin for spamcop as well as some cool widgits (yahoo, and Apple).

Thanks again!

Miss Betsy,

I go back an forth on the goverment being involved in the "fix". I think a case can be made on both sides. If the "CAN spam" act is any indication of what the goverment's involvement is, then we're certainly in trouble. What a disaster! Thank you for your comments.

The question becomes...which government? Email is international and requires an international, network wide solution.

I don't mind tasteful advertising (hate pop-ups) I believe a financial return means you operate with conscience and will survive

Best way to get interest is create a "list"

Those ISP's with broken email servers that they force on subscribers

(1) Not log the source IP (Gmail etc)

(2) uncontactable ISP's (no usable abuse address)

Perhaps create a "good list" site Most only put up bad-lists and maybe getting overdone SpamCop Blocklist Brazil, China and Korea along with SpamAssasin is all that is needed to SORT email from inbox to Bulk folder.

ALL spam in Bulk folder should be reported to the ISP to allow a remedy as SpamCop Email does,

It being the only email address you will ever need (had mine since last century, still bullet proof ALL spam accurately sorted & reported)

SpamCop Blocklist is unique as it is a spam Radar blocking spammers as they try to send (not After spam is sent). Quickly releasing blocked IP's as spam stops (before block ISP is notified)

Good List suggestion?

A web-browser proxy of selectable sites blocking all others (Good sites to pay bond for entry) Target Schools concerned Parents

List of BondedSender or good email sources which can be Configured easily

Make Windows users aware of my Signature(you should perhaps consider a link signature). As well as a site like or similar to Symatecs to give a free security check

Too many sites are aimed at the technically fluent. It is possible to explain how email works to the non-technically fluent and how ordinary users can be responsible internet users by using security, being careful about how they use their email addresses, and by demanding good service from ISPs like Yahoo and Comcast. There are probably a lot of people who would be appalled at the amount of porn that comes from Comcast and would speak up in protest or change ISPs, for instance.
