Filter problem

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I created filters for Viagra, Cialis, HGH and a few others yet I am still receiving emails in the held folder with these phrases in either the subject or message body. I have verified the setup to ensure nothing was omitted and am not sure what to do next. The 'Stop checking' box is unchecked for all filters created. Any guidance is deeply appreciated. Thank you.

1. I assume you are talking about the personal filters and you are aware these only work when you are logged into webmail.

2. I assume you have "Allow filter rules to be applied in any mailbox?" checked.

I think I have seen the same issue, so it may simply be the way it works. Do the filters work properly if you apply them manually in the folder?

Hello Steven,

Thank you for your response.

1. I log in at webmail.spamcop.net then go to the 'Held mail' folder. The filters are under 'Options/Filters/Filter Settings'.

2. Yes, "Allow filter rules to be applied in any mailbox?" is checked.

3. Would subjects of HGH, Viagra, Cialis, Hoodia and ED be caught by the main filters?

Again, thank you for your quick reply.

The only part of the SPamCop system filters at all interested in the body or subject of a message would be the SpamAssassin settings. You can try lowering the setting to catch more spam, but you may catch more ham as well.

If the messages are in the Held Mail folder, they have already been caught by the "main" filters which are applied by the server when the message is received. Those filters can be chosen at Options, SpamCop Tools, Select your email filtering blacklists.

I thought what you were trying to do was to delete these messages (for some reason) that have already been caught by the system filters.

The personal filters you describe in 1. will only run automatically on login on the messages in the Inbox if my testing is correct (and only if all the correct switches are set). They must be manually run on any other folders by clicking the filter icon in the appropriate folder.
