jbloom
Mine have disappeared too. This morning I sent in 63 and only got 38 back. Something is broke, somewhere.
Wazoo
Yet again, it's hard for me to get too excited about some issues this week-end ... please take a few minutes to look at some of the Announcements items . in particular the "Planned Outage" posting. Considering that some DNS changes were made, some servers added into the mix, other servers changing connections, and probably a few more items that have yet to be made public ... it's not hard to believe that there might be an issue or two that still have some folks busting a hump at this very moment in clearing up
WB8TYW
What method was used for submission? E-mail or web form? I submitted to the web form about 60 that my broadband ISP let through in a 48 hour period yesterday and spamcop processed them all in real time. Today, so far my broadband ISP has let through 12 spams so far, and spamcop.net processed them all in real time when pasted into the web form. Of course if my broadband ISP used the conservative open proxy lists, it would cut their cash operating costs, and eliminate most of the spam I see to report. -John Personal Opinion Only
jbloom
What method was used for submission? I submit mine via email. So far today, 89 were sent, and 49 replies were received.
Wazoo
http://alpha.cesmail.net/graphics/spamstats.gif shows that the SpamCop system is far from healthy. And, the usual additional issue is the background processing involved in catching up with the e-mail backlog that develops during an outage. H_Toni
Since the planned outage I have problems reporting by mail, I do not get a "Ready to report" mail, and the web-interface shows no "unreported spam". MailWasherPro does the email-submission and it worked fine before the planned outage. Reporting (Copy & Paste) through web-interface works well (except the nag screen shows up to 45 sec). SC's mail sure comes to my inbox, since I registered some minutes ago and read the confirmation mail. What's going wrong with the email-submissions? -- Toni
john1000
i know whats going on,we are reporting for nothing..... im already getting frustrated as it is cause im beginning to have doubts about the use of it.....i cant count the times ive submitted. i get about 40 / 50 spammails a day and im submitting if my life depends on it... and do i notice any difference ? no ....sorry to say but i dont. im not absolutely not a racist but how do you stop a spammer from korea where the spammers grow on trees ? not to mention japan or the u.s.a ? just think about it........ pyong yeng(fake name) spams my ass off and i submit his ass to spamcop,in that period he's using my address as return address and gives that away to his spam-family.......thats about....1000000 ? Then they start....... get the idea..... The only way to stop spam effectively is when I.S.P changes your email address.....that means ...."allowing to" BTW.....now the system needs atleast 50 seconds per manual submission.. Miss Betsy
The only way to stop spam effectively is when I.S.P changes your email address.....that means ...."allowing to" I don't know...it is an effective way, just like content filters, to prevent spam from reaching a gullible target. There are many different ways to combat spam. The most effective way is blocklists (which is what you are doing when you contribute to the spamcop bl by reporting). There have been changes in spammer tactics and changes in attitudes in legitimate merchants over the past couple of years. There are very, very few newsletter publishers who don't use confirmed opt in nowadays which wasn't true only two years ago, for instance. It all depends on whether you are interested in promoting a spam solution for everyone or protecting your own inbox whether you think that reporting spam (by yourself or via spamcop) is effective. It is effective for the ulitmate solution, but not effective for your inbox (unless you use the spamcop email service or some other spam filtering). john1000
hi Miss Betsy ...long time no see...ha...ha well my isp is chello and is completely useless with the spamfilter or whatever they call it . i get adult mail with adult lines and text,so they are not stopped. about another email address...... well i mentioned that a few weeks ago to an employe and he said they only give a new email address in some situations... and spamcop still doesnt sends the finishing mail. and if spamcop doesnt work properly how long do you think i hold up doing this all by hand ? ewv
Sometimes there are long delays in the notifications for forwarded spam. You can use the paste method to make sure the spam is reported in a timely matter, but the forwarded version may or may not come in later. If it doesn't, you risk missing reporting it; it it does you use twice the fuel and have to process it again to cancel it -- and there is no way of knowing which it will be. H_Toni
Strange ... applied for a new authorization ... now email submission seems to work! Suppose something went wrong during planned outage.
kato
Is the reporting system working or not? I've submitted ~20 today and have not received replies. Web access does not show any spam "Ready for reporting". Reporting via the web access works but delay screen makes this form of reporting impractical. john1000
well its not a bug or maintenance thing but you can say that its a big day for spammers. To bad that spamcop doesnt respond to the problem or atleast post something about what is going on. ive even signed up to get a new submission code but nothing changes. if you get 40 to 50 a day and now you have to do it all by hand again...how long do you keep up ? and as usual...the users loses and the abuser wins... (and for spamcop: your communications sucks)

turetzsr
Hi, john1000, ...Is there some problem you would like us to try to help you fix? If so, please ask. If you're just ranting, that's okay, but please direct such to the Lounge rather than the Help forum. Thanks!
john1000
well theres nothing to fix,and my problem/complaint is serious enough not to be posted in a "lounge".

To bad that spamcop doesnt respond to the problem or atleast post something about what is going on. Although I'm not a SpamCop employee, pray tell me what is wrong with my response in this very Topic at http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?...indpost&p=11817 ..??? ive even signed up to get a new submission code but nothing changes. if you get 40 to 50 a day and now you have to do it all by hand again...how long do you keep up ? and as usual...the users loses and the abuser wins... (and for spamcop: your communications sucks) And might I add, that your continuing rant is getting a bit old. How about adding some specific data such that something might be suggested as to what's going wrong? Have you looked at any of the Pinned items, have you looked at other Topics, does your ISP filter on the word "spam", on and on .... tons of possible issues, but all you've done thus far is rant ... turetzsr
well theres nothing to fix,and my problem/complaint is serious enough not to be posted in a "lounge". ...If there's nothing to fix, please do not post in the "Help" forum, as we would like to try to reserve it for help in resolving problems that can be resolved. ...The "Lounge" is not for problems deemed to be other than serious. It is there for discussion of topics that aren't requests for help (at least IMHO -- Wazoo may add something if I've misunderstood).
bobbear
I thought (IMHO) that the lounge was for discussion of anything other than Spamcop and related issues according to the header....
