MikeRG Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Hi All, I have Subscribed to various forums here and receive an email when a new post is submitted. When I click on the link in the email, I am sent to a forum error page containing the following message; Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information. The error returned was: Sorry, the link that brought you to this page seems to be out of date or broken. I have tried clicking the link in the email and also cutting and pasting it to the address box in my browser for example, I received the following link this morning. http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=2845 Can anyone cast some light on this for me. Thanks Mike I arrive at a page informing me that I may have typed the address incorrectly or the link has expired.
StevenUnderwood Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 Clicking on that link, I get the same error message. Searching the forums, I am seeing the following 2 new threads: http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=2844 http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=2846 I do not see http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=2845 anywhere. If we can determine which thread it should have been pointing to, we can see if this is a "topic moved" scenario or an error in the emails sent. Does this happen for EVERY message you receive? Does the email indicate any title of the thread for instance? I only have Subscribed to the Administrator forum to get announcements. I get too much email already to add too many more
Wazoo Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 There was a set of posts yesterday .. user had posted once, then apparently couldn't "see" it, so this user created another Topic and pasted in the same data placed in the first post. I came along and see two Topics started by the same person, same Title applied .... I go in and look, yes, the posts are an exact match. One post is deleted, the other actually ended up being "Merged" into another existing Topic (in this case, into a different Forum) ... So from this end, I would have to suggest that you received a pointer to the only posting that I deleted yesterday. Checking various items, I should amend the above by stating that the pointer you reference would actually be pointing to a Topic .. which in the above cases contained only a single post. In addition to the deletion of one single-post Topic, the Moderator functions of the merging of one single-post Topic into another existing Topic would assumedly add a second pointer that would have once existed but not after the data had moved.
