chrislott Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 Please help, this morning mail that I write using SC's webmail with a target of about 10 people is being bounced back. I don't know how many recpients actually received something. The original mail that bounced went to a list of about 10 people. I've sent test messages to myself at other email addresses, and some arrived, some not (!??). Inbound mail seems to work fine; tests from other emails to SC and read via webmail seem fine. Below is the bounce message I receive back. It takes a few minutes to bounce. I've elided some email addresses and most of the content of the message. Did I supply enough info? Please advise, thanks. chris... --------------------- Hi. This is the qmail-send program at mailgate.cesmail.net. I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. Merlyn Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 You sent it to yourself? The address you sent your mail to when you sent it to yourself does it forward to your spamcop account and does your spamcop account forward it back to that same account?
chrislott Posted December 10, 2004 Author Posted December 10, 2004 I use webmail as my primary email read-write system, that's it. Absolutely no tricky pop-ing or forwarding out of spamcop. The original mail that bounced went to about 10 email addresses, and my spamcop email was not among them, nor was any other email of mine. No reason for the email to come back to spamcop. One of the test messages went to my work which has its own email system, it arrived ok. One of the test messages went to a domain I control, which forwards back to spamcop. It never arrived, nor was it bounced. I'll be happy to conduct another test, anyway you like. Thanks. chris...
Merlyn Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 How could it arrive at that account if it autoforwards back to spamcop? Can you check the logs? I would think If you sent it to a domain that forwards back to spamcop then you created a loop. Spamcop tried to send it to that account then that account re-forwarded to Spamcop then spamcop tried to send it to that account then that account re-forwarded to Spamcop then spamcop tried to send it to that account then that account re-forwarded to Spamcop then spamcop tried to send it to that account then that account re-forwarded to Spamcop then spamcop tried to send it to that account then that account re-forwarded to Spamcop then spamcop tried to send it to that account then that account re-forwarded to Spamcop then spamcop tried. Just guessing :-)
chrislott Posted December 10, 2004 Author Posted December 10, 2004 I'm sorry to repeat, but let's not get sidetracked with my feeble attempts at testing. Never mind those. Here it is again: this morning I composed an email to 10 people (yahoo, aol, optonline, etc) using Webmail. I did not include myself on the recipient list. I clicked send in webmail. About 15 minutes later I received the bounce message that I posted earlier. Why is cesmail sending to itself over and over? That's the tough question to answer; it looks like a mail configuration problem. Maybe it was a transient problem and fixed now.
AndrewB Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 I'm seeing this too when I attempt to send an individual email from the webmail interface to a single friend at Yahoo. Can an admin be notified so that this routing issue is fixed? Thank you! AndrewB
Jeff G. Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 The described situation doesn't appear to be happening for me in one test a few minutes ago.
