Technically, this does appear to be a response to a spam parse/report/complaint somehow fed to this person, possibly passed on by the fine folks at abuse[at]ca.mci.com ???? What you posted shows a To: address of the spam report ID number, which would have then been forwarded by the SpamCop server to your registered (reporting) account. You are being asked to allow them to Remove you from their list, commonly known as "list-washing" .... Without doing a bit of research, (maybe someone will jump on this later) it's not known whether this outfit is known for running a dirty list and this is how they handle those who complain or whether it is possible that you did sign up ... I don't have access to see the spam or the report details ... but basically it boils down to this; If you signed up with them, then a parse/report should not have been done .. rather the unsubscribe action should have been taken. If you didn't sign up and this is the general spam garbage we all see, then it's up to you to answer (or not) .... let them list-wash you so you no longer receive their garbage (crossing fingers that they aren't the type to immediately add you to a hundred different lists) or ..... The FAQ here should contain an ancient newsgroup-published "standard" response to a list-washing request written by a Larry Killgalon (spelling might be off) ... have you run through the FAQ here yet? If you did not sign up, then you should NEVER unsubscribe (unless you did business with them and don't want to be bothered to go through other channels to educate them that it is rude to bother an email customer with a mailing unless they ask for it). IMHO, a response to a report should always be answered because that is the polite way of doing business. However, you need to be able to keep your real email address from this person by using a throwaway account to answer him. It sounds like a classic listwash attempt because if you had subscribed they would have been able to tell from the spam report. You can use the report ID number for the 'name.' Basically what you want to say is "I am sorry but I can't help you. I don't know what information you have because I never gave it to you. If you are using information that wasn't given to you by the person you are emailing, then I don't want to give you any further information. I never requested any such thing, of course. I'm debating what to do, as they apparently don't care if the "client" spams the whole school. Definitely be careful about giving him any more information than he has. (Also might mention that you intend to keep reporting emails.)
