bobbear
.....or are dotster proposing to send my email address to a spammer & scammer??? I was getting a bit ticked off with offensive spam from invernessxxx . com so I had a look at the dotster website and they have a spam reporting form. Great, I thought, until I noticed the following next to the email address box: "((This will be forwarded to the appropriate contact(s) of the domain at issue and may be used to help us follow up with the complaint.)". That's just what I want - my email address fowarded along with a complaint to a spammer and porno merchant....
Jeff G.
If you don't munge, you shouldn't mind. If you do munge, you have the option of not sending Reports to dotster, or of being more anonymous by using one of your recent Report Email Addresses on that webpage. Bear in mind that the policy on that webpage does not necessarily apply to SpamCop Reports, but it is a good indication of dotster's mindset. I wouldn't expect Spamcop reports to be sent to dotster, so I'd normally do it manually, but you're spot on about it being an indication of the mindset of dotster, which is what I was getting at. I would expect them to use my email address themselves to communicate with me after evaluating the site following my manual abuse report, (hopefully... !), but I see no point in forwarding my email address on to the offending party who could well be a real low life, (yes, I know - aren't all spammers.... ). I'd usually file an abuse report using the dotster internic register address if I couldn't find a better one, but the same thing would probably happen if I did that. As we all know, this is not uncommon, but it's the first time I've come across it so blatantly expressed as part of policy, but then perhaps I'm just being naive.....
