Attachments problem

Recommended Posts

There are quite a few previous queries on this .. most resolved based on the sequence of buttons pushed. Several of them included the actions of users passing on their data so I could troubleshoot their accounts, but no problem found. The next most common item would be the 2Meg limit on size.

I'm having this problem with Webmail, but the problem is not the attach sequence and I can reproduce the failure about 75% of the time. Also, it may be relevant that I have been using Spamcop Webmail for several years, and this problem only appeared a few weeks ago. Here is the procedure I'm using and the results:

1) Create an email

2) Attach a document

3) Confirm attachment is shown as attached

4) Click Send

5) Attachment is stripped off email and only body is sent

6) Repeat steps 1-4 and eventually it works and attachment is sent with body, though it can take up to 3 tries.

Also, the following procedures show same problem:

1) Create an email

2) Attach a document

3) Save to drafts

4) Open draft

5) Attachment is no longer attached

6) Repeat steps 1-4 and eventually it works and draft includes attachment, though it can take up to 3 tries.

Then, after saved draft correctly shows attachment as attached,

8) Open draft

9) Confirm attachment is shown as attached

10) Click Send

11) Attachment is stripped off email and only body is sent

12) Open drafts folder and note draft is still there and attachment is still shown as attached

13) Repeat steps 8-10, and after 1-3 tries (without modification), it is sent correctly including attachment.

If it would be helpful, you can access my account and try it yourself. You can also see the draft I tried to send repeatedly, and my Sent folder which shows multiple tries without attachment, followed by final success with attachment.

Thank you very much for your help!

Regards,

Rick

1. Are you having this problem using http://webmail.spamcop.net/ , https://webmail.spamcop.net/ , or both?

2. What size files are you trying to attach?

3. Even though you claim it is not the attach sequence, in your explanation of what you are doing, you fail to mention hitting the Attach button which has been a problem with many people in the past. Please be VERY specific about the steps you are taking. I just sent mine and received the attachment with no problem.

4. I am seeing that drafts do not save attachments, but that may be by design (though I can see where someone would like that feature).

Steps used:

1. Compose net message, addressing and inserting subject.

2. In the Attachments section for File 1, hit browse and select file to attach and click Open.

3. Click the Attach button on the right side of the Attachment section (the part you do not mention).

4. Click Send Message.

Hi Stephen:

Thanks very much for your quick reply. I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner. The number of my replies below correspond to your numbers.

1. Only http, not https. I have not tried with https.

2. Several different sizes, most recently 943 KB.

3. I used to make that mistake and am aware of how easy it is to make, so I should have explicitly stated it. However, I assure you I always hit the Attach button, and just to be certain I always scroll down after clicking Attach to make sure atachment is shown as attached, as I stated in step 3 of my first example (this confirmation step would fail if I had not hit "Attach" button). Conclusive proof is shown in cases when I save to drafts and attachment is shown saved along with draft, and is still shown as attached when I re-open draft (see my last example).

4. Saving attachments along with drafts sometimes works for me, so the feature must be at least effectively enabled, if not intentionally. If it is failing for you that may be an example of the problem I'm seeing.

Thanks very much for your help. Let me know if you find anything.

Kind regards,

Rick
