Complainee asking for full email

Recommended Posts

I have been spammed with porn sites relentlessly for the past few months, and I have been sending my reports to the affiliate company called dollarmachine which pays out to each new affiliate signup.

Reports to them have gone unanswered and unactioned upon for quite a while now.. but I came across new contacts for them yesterday and tried them out when I was reporting my spam.

I received a reply from someone at dollarmachine this morning asking for the email from one of my reports.. why would they possibly want the email when they already had a copy sent to them? I'm assuming that the only difference is that I would be showing them what my email address is. Is it at all advisable to send anything to them when I'm not sure that they can be trusted in the first place?

not enough detail provided.

I have been sending my reports to the affiliate company

Directly? To what "address" ..???

I came across new contacts for them yesterday and tried them out when I was reporting my spam

Where did you find these 'new' addresses. What were they? Again, are you sending your comnplaints 'directly' ..???

I received a reply from someone at dollarmachine

The comparison would follow with the above questions .. received an e-mail from "what address" ..??? One of the above or some 'personal' address?

If you used SpamCop.net in the 'reporting' process, how about a Tracking URL?

Personally, I believe that the request for a copy of the email means one of two things.

1) We know we are spamming, but if we can find out what address we sent it to we will listwash your address. Presumably though, they already know your address if you emailed them directly.

2) We are trying to be responsible and kill this affiliates account, however for some reason we are not getting or not reading spamcop reports. It might be good to see a tracking URL for one that was reported just so we can see where those reports actually ended up.

If they want your email, the only reason for that is to list wash you. If all they were wanting to do is track down and cancel rogue affiliate accounts, then the could almost certainly do that from the URLs that the affiliate is spamming. They must know those URLs if they have the SC reports and managed to reply to them.

It's really up to you, but there is no way I would trust any affiliate program with any of my own addresses.

Here's the tracking URL.. I sent user-defined reports to the affiliate program site (dollarmachine), and did not mail them directly. I found the addresses in porn webmaster forums where these people identified themselves as being administrators/sales reps for this affiliate program.

The guy who replied was miket[at]dollarmachine.com

Re: listwashing.. I responded to someone from a different program a while ago with email details, and it seemed as though my amount of porn spam increased.. which is why I'm sort of wary about responding to these people.

Since these appear to be addresses you added, where did you get them?

If reported today, reports would be sent to:

This shows that you are in receipt of an e-mail from the same person you added as a target for a SpamCop report. The assumption would also then follow that he didn't actually send this e-mail directly to you, rather used the links provided in that report, which would have sent his response to the 'reportID' accress at SpamCop.net, which then would have forwarded that e-mail to your registered reporting account address. (There's a lot of stuff there which sure wasn't mentioned at all in the starting post ..)

So, without knowing the exact words of this last e-mail you received, it would seem that the basic thrust of the query would be to get the address that was used in the 'spam' .. as that's basically the only data not found within the report. Add that to the open-proxy data in the parse coming from an Asian source already known for spam spew ..... it's a bit hard to imagine something 'wonderful' happening from continuing that dialog.

...Right: IIUC, they listwash you so you don't report them to SpamCop, then sell your address as a confirmed valid address of someone who actually reads spam (without including the caveat that you report the spam rather than buy the spammed product -- isn't the lack of honor among thieves distressing :) <g>).

Well, it appears as though the only 'wonderful' thing I was expecting may have happened.. I haven't gotten any porn spam since this morning. So I'm hoping that the affiliate manager deleted the spammer's account with dollarmachine and cut off his revenue. Temporarily, at least.

Politely reply that as the report was sent by "me" through SpamCop. This can mean other interested parties including criminal agencies may well have been alerted by SpamCop (spamvertised pornographic website sent to children of all ages). "I" do not wish to affect any potential investigation by Authorities of your company and this serious criminal matter
