Tiscali UK

It has been reported in the UK media that Tiscali customers have not been able to send out mail for a week now and are advising their customers to use Hotmail (!) They are blaming spambots and blocklists for their incompetence. Surprised we haven't had a flood of my fellow-contrymen in here complaining. If we do, you'll know why. It really doesn't compute though because it seems that people are not getting rejections from recipients, ther problem seems to be with Tiscali's outgoing servers.

Yep Outgoing mail from SMTP.tiscali.co.uk and indeed tiscali webmail didn't go to external or internal email addressed starting about 25th May. Tiscali's claims about this were so implausible , blaming everything on spam blocking by other ISPs and not mentioning that internal to internal emails were also blocked until 30th May, that no technical account of what happened can be relied on. Certainly users were not informed and the status page mentioned only "some emails" and "some destinations".

Hi, We're not blocking our own ports, they're blacklisted, hence the reason you cannot send tiscali to tiscali emails. =

Hi, The ports are being blocked at source, so the majority of tiscali to tiscali emails will not be delivered.

They have, it seems, installed Ironport stuff and new servers called names like mk-outboundfilter-4.mail.uk.tiscali.com and thing work now (2 June) if very slowly while, I suppose, people resend from sent mail.

My only problem was wasting time by doing tests, given I wasn't sure where the problem was. I could of course use Spamcop Mail plus I have a working and tested Freeserve account
