"Child Porn" spam

Recommended Posts

In the past two weeks I've received a number of emails toting their "Child Porn...aged 9-14 year old's"...amongst all the rest of viagra, XXX, stock market, etc junk

I've reported them via here but wondered if ya'll also reported these emails to the FBI?

(additional)

Actually more wondering if 'SpamCop' does any of the reporting to FBI when the "Child Porn" stuff just gets reported as spam by us (as opposed to what individuals do with that bovine scat).

Personally, I do not report these to the FBI. I suspect many of the outfits may be foreign, and thus beyond the reach of the FBI.

Well, child porn is an international problem & against a number of 'foreign' countries (if I remember correctly). So "...maybe beyond the reach of the FBI..." but perhaps there is some cooperativeness? Don't know until you contact your local FBI office & ask.

Thank you for the suggestion, but, I have in fact already had contact with the FBI regarding spam. They asked me for some information that I had on spam in general. They did not invite me to forward my child porn spam to them at that time.

The other spam topics you mentioned (black market Rx drugs, securities fraud) are also international problems, possibly also should be reported to the FBI along with the child porn.

If I could stop sleeping and quit my job, I'd have plenty of time to report all of my spam to the FBI.

If you would like to report the spam you get to the FBI, you may do so with my leave and blessing.

In the SpamCop FAQ 'here' there are 'other places' and 'other lists' that involve themselves with specific spam/issues. In reality, most of the 'child/teen' pron sites aren't actually offering up that stuff .... the 'real' child stuff tends to be underground .. i.e. no way would the participating parties 'advertise' that stuff out in the open, much less broadcast it to millions of unknown spam resipients.

On the other hand, the FBI has access to the 'fridge' at the FTC (spam[at]uce.gov address)

I searched the FAQ sites but didn't find anything that seemed to fit. So what are the "...'other places' and 'other lists'..." that you mentioned.

I don't open that junk so I don't know what it's about, all I was asking in the beginning was how SpamCop handles the spam that might involve child porn - do they handle it just like anyother form of spam or is there any link to whatever you're talking about - "...the 'fridge' at the FTC (spam[at]uce.gov address)..." {whatever that is?}.

SpamCop FAQ links at the top of this very page?

Other information, help and links

What other sites should I visit to help learn about, fight, handle spam?

There's a number of other spam-fighting pages listed there, some include additional pages of links to go elsewhere. One that comes to mind is Marjolein's Ban spam page - includes reporting addresses though admitting that I haven't been there in a long while ... noting that she is one of the developers of the Wiki we've got running here ...

spam submittals to the spamcop.net parser are handled as spam .... content is not evaluated in and of itself ...

There are links to the FTC spam pages in the same referenced FAQ 'here' .... the 'fridge' itself hasn't really been in the news for a number of years, but occasionally there are press releases of some criminal and civil prosecutions that reference its use ....

"...spam submittals to the spamcop.net parser are handled as spam .... content is not evaluated in and of itself ..." That answers my basic question.

I'll try to find the links you mentioned. (I did use the FAQ links above - however I'm not as proficient as most of you seem)

Thanks again.

You can report all such stuff to knujon (www.knujon.com) who take care of forwarding it to the right persons.

You can also report the site in question using complainterator ( http://www.complainterator.com/ ) to the appropriate registrar and ask them to take the site down!

From my personal experience, both complainterator and knujon work pretty well in taking down the spamvertized websites.
