Telarin Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 All my submissions to spam[at]uce.gov today are bouncing with the following: Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. Subject: Mail Submission Sent: 1/4/2008 8:08 AM The following recipient(s) could not be reached: 'spam[at]uce.gov' on 1/4/2008 8:08 AM You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator. <giaserver.gia-tx.com #5.7.1 smtp;550 5.7.1 <spam[at]uce.gov>... Relaying denied. IP name lookup failed [198.66.77.154]> From where I sit, DNS is resolving both forward and back, so not sure what is up with the "IP name lookup failed" error. Is anyone else seeing this problem, or is it just me?
Lking Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Yes. I think the problem has been developing for several days. It started about a week ago with notices that email 'could not be delivered in the last 4 hours.' Let me guess: This is the holiday season and lots of gov people are taking leave. The spam[at]uce.gov mailbox filled up (no auto processing) or the auto processing broke or a disk got full because of extra holiday reports. Now that the correct geek is back from new years and started working the problem they just disabled the mailbox to stop the logs from filling up while they fixed the problem. My guess is that when they get the under lying issue resolved the mailbox will be opened again.
Telarin Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 Certainly sounds like a plausible scenario. Mostly just wanted to make sure it wasn't something on my end.

Farelf Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Hmmm ... as above "failure on Remote-MTA: DNS; spammy2.uce.gov" [The original message was received at Fri, 4 Jan 2008 21:44:28 -0500 (EST)] Also the earlier Hexillion SMTP session "[Contacting spammy2.uce.gov [164.62.4.6]...] [Connection refused] [Resolving spammy1.uce.gov...] [Contacting spammy1.uce.gov [164.62.4.5]...] [Connected]" [ Fri, 4 Jan 2008 18:25:09 -0500 (EST)] Another Hexillion session "[Contacting spammy2.uce.gov [164.62.4.6]...] [Connection refused] [Resolving spammy1.uce.gov...] [Contacting spammy1.uce.gov [164.62.4.5]...] [Connected] 220 spammy1.uce.gov ESMTP server ready at Fri, 4 Jan 2008 22:50:27 -0500 (EST) EHLO hexillion.com 250-spammy1.uce.gov Hello ..." So - spammy2.uce.gov [164.62.4.6] rejecting, spammy1.uce.gov [164.62.4.5] accepting - I have no idea what is going on. Hexillion tries spammy2 then moves to spammy1 when connection refused.
