[Resolved] Email Submitted reports

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm using email submit to report spam with Outlook Express.

I'm finding that its taking 3-6 hours until a report is processed. I been going to the SpamCop Web site (logged in) and do find some reports after 3-6 hours. But don't get the email response of the report is ready for processing between 6-12 hours later from the time its is posted on the Web site as ready.

The response time has been degrading since about 12/3/05.

I don't know if this is a issue but my old IP was recently changed (old one expired).

When I send a report (email submittal) it is as a group and I recall this was a problem at one time. Furthermore, I've tried including another one of my email address as part of the group to see when it was getting through the server. The response is about 3 sec.

Any Suggestion?

About 12 reports were sent approximately 2 hours ago and still have not been processed.

I think we're all seeing this bobster - refer http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=5698&hl= though, coincidentally or not, I've recently switched ISPs too. After a few days I got a new account, thinking maybe relay of confirmation email from old address was contributing to the delay but not so (headers didn't seem to indicate that was the case anyway).

For pity's sake, edit out your submit address or ask a moderator to do it fo you if your edit access has timed out.

Yes, look at the statistics volume has doubled, roughly sense last summer. Not sure if changes in IP has much of an effect, had mine for 10 yrs. I have been having trouble with the ISP's 'new' filters so have been tracking my traffic in and out. I too am seeing the delay. By watching the "Past Reports" tab you can see when a spam is logged/received and when processed. Of course you know when submitted and when you receive the report.

JIC anyone is having similar experience - no response to email submissions made during and after the 15 Jan maintenance window (about 4 times, maybe more). Tried copying myself into the last submission and this time had a SpamCop response within 10 mins (fairly normal for me):

Sent Date: Tue, 17 Jan 2006 13:25:57 +0800

Received (SpamCop) Mon, 16 Jan 2006 21:26:01 -0800

Autoresponder sent Date: Tue, 17 Jan 2006 05:32:16 GMT

Received (me) From - Tue Jan 17 13:35:29 2006 (+0800)

Hadn't really expected it to "fix itself", just working through http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?...indpost&p=11802

Possibly this is due to an issue with my ISP, notwithstanding timing in relation to SC shutdown and restoration. There again, maybe not. Missing batches seem to be gone for good, but reported by pasting individual spam into reporting window anyway.

Earlier this week I submitted my first batch of spam by Email for the first time in well over a year. I coincur that response times by Email are slow although I didn't find it to be the 6-12 hours you refer to.

But it did remind me why I switched to pasting into the web based parsing process. A virtually instant turn around. Since I get very few spam items that get passed the Email account filters I have to submit the held mail items from the website anyway.

This matter has been resolved. Shortly, after my posting everything started working properly. Have no idea what the problem was with the processing but its working like LIGHTING NOW.

On the gripping hand, my latest have again evaporated, even the copy I sent myself. I've sent a "what the ...?" to iinet.net.au. Depending on their response, or its lack, we may have another entry for http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=2782

(or a more elegant solution than using their webmail). Great to see the administration of this corner of the internet in such safe hands. Where's that "irony" icon again? ; ]

[Later] No response from ISP yet but last batch went through OK. Common factor for recent success is I have copied myself into the initial submission. Could all be coincidence of course, but it's working (sometimes) and evidently *not* a SpamCop issue per se.

[Later still] No direct response but forwarding (with or without copying myself in) seems to work following several complaints to iinet support and one "template" response from them which completely avoided the point. There never was a problem when spam filtering was disabled. Noting the warning about email forwarding (that is bulk forwarding) from the account configuration detail in Toolbox - "Email Forwarding is disabled due to AntiSpam or AntiVirus being activated. To re-enable your email forwarding both the above will need to be disabled." That shouldn't affect manual forwarding (or any other) - after all, even with filters enabled, this stuff came in, why should the filters stop it going out? But, as others with different providers have noted elsewhere, it still happens. Bottom line - since there is never any notification that an outward mail has been blocked by iinet it is hard to be confident that any mail has been sent at all. But, in the special case of SpamCop submissions where monitoring is easy, forwarding is working at the moment.

Looks like many of us can never assume the failure of email submission is "SpamCop's fault" when the ISP's filtering is enabled. Can never assume whatever fix the ISP is using is going to stay fixed. One more well poisoned. Safest option is to disable filtering.
