Popup

Well as far as I am concerned these e should be classed as spam. I am getting so tried of this casino one coming up that actually hides the close option on the top right of the page.

The thing that is puzzling me is it seems that it is on my PC and has a timer as it will not always open as I open a page but rather will popup a few minutes into the page being opened. I have popup block enabled on IE7 and FF2 plus on McAfee Internet Security but it still comes up. I can be working in another program with my internet open in the background and after a while it will popup and I have not been browsing for some time.

Any ideas on this one would be appreciated.

This is usually called spyware and I find some on every machine I work on for "slow machine". Windows Defender from Microsoft, Ad-Aware SE Personal from http://www.lavasoft.com/, and Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org/ have all worked well for me. You can also plug the actual casino popping up into google and there will probably be directions on how to remove that specific popup from your machine.

I have McAfee Internet Security and have done a search and it picks nothing up. I have always found it to be quite reliable in this respect however I will give the ones you suggested a go, thanks.

You most certainly have spyware on your machine. Chances are that you have other symptoms - like your machine running slow or sluggish.

McAfee Internet Security is not so good with spyware as much as it is with a virus. In order to remove spyware, one might have to use 3 or three different programs - no one software program will catch 100% of spyware.

Don't ignore this problem - take care of it now. If your machine has spyware on it, it has the potential of being accessed by someone else.

I've had a lot of BAD experiences with the crapware from both McAfee and Symantec/Norton. I will no longer touch the stuff, and generally convince all my friends and relates to scrape it off their PCs in favor of better programs.

It sounds like you have a textbook case of spyware. I'm sure you'll find some nasties hiding on your PC when using Ad-Aware and SpyBotS&D. Be sure you get the "Ad-Aware" from Lavasoft. There have been some "sound alikes" out there that actually are adware themselves!

I second the sentiment re Norton & McAfee 'crapware'. I'm sick of dealing with tech support problems where the culprit comes down to Norton insecurity. If it doesn't bu**er your machine up completely it slows it down unless you've got a top clock quad core...

This could be a good machine to try prevx out on if it's standard 32 bit XP - I've read a lot of very impressive reviews about it, including one guy who used it as his sole protection for a year as a test & remained uninfected. Unfortunately they don't yet support 64 bit XP pro which I use.
