Error message in every mail submitted

Hello!

I am a newbie with SpamCop and hope you can help me.

Every mail i send to spamcop with

submit.MYCODE[at]spam.spamcop.net

results in the following mail from the autoresponder:

SpamCop encountered errors while saving spam for processing:

SpamCop could not find your spam message in this email:

It has nothing to do with outlook (the clue i found while searching the forum) because i use horde (webbased server software) or after downloading to my PC (just to see if Horde could be the problem) - Mozilla 1.5

The webbased submission works, but I need the possibility to redirect my mails directly from the server. What am i doing wrong?

If you need any more information from me or my system, let me know.

Thanks

Harald

The first thing, a newcomer needs to check is whether the forward is 'forward as attachment'

see http://www.spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/19.html

for how to do this in several different mail applications.

If you send one to yourself and look at it, you may be able to see what the problem is. There have been a rash of mangled headers lately. See http://www.spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/17.html to see if your headers are being sent so they arrive still correct.

If none of these things work, post the headers (NOT the spam) and exactly how you try to send them to spamcop here.

Miss Betsy

Not sure if there's a definite cause/effect, but http://www.horde.org/imp mentions a recent major update. What version is in use at your end?

but I need the possibility to redirect my mails directly from the server

And as Miss Betsy has pointed out, the "redirect" process is probably the root cause of the issue. Even the term "redirect" suggests an issue, but not knowing what's behind you (or horde's) definition of that specific word, not much sense going into details on that. Bottom line is that SpamCop is looking for a specific format for an e-mail submittal and apparently the method you're using isn't it. I know that there are others in these Forums that have mentioned using Horde, and this failure mode wasn't the reason Horde was brought up, so there would appear to be other options / capabilities in existence.

Things that seem trivial for advanced users may not be it for some "newbies";

maybe one shoud recall :

the essential information for spamcop is in the "header" of the mail,

which does not mean (only) the usually displayed fields like

"From : xxx ; Date : xxx ; To: xxx"

(there are more or less irrelevant), but mainly the usually hidden lines

"Received: from xxx by yyy"

These lines are the main information used by spamcop.

(and even there, only the IP numbers, not the names, are relevant)

Now, these lines are (almost) never put when you "forward" a message as a quotation,

especially the "forward" function of Horde (the versions I know) does not do it.

And, AFAIK, the "redirect" function of Horde is not good either :

spamcop won't complain, but I think that the original headers are replaced

by new headers corresponding to your "redirection" message

(at least one Horde server on which I just checked it out), so in fact you risk to blacklist yourself !!

(maybe spamcop is intelligent enough not to do this...

did you already use the "Report Now" function ?

I suppose when you got no error message, spamcop simply ignored your message

because there were 0 spams *attached*)

Moral : you really have to *forward as attachment*

(which works fine with Mozilla e.g.)

or, use the copy-paste way through the web based submission form

(then also, make sure that the "Received: ..." lines are present).

(And, as mentioned, you can always check if a given way of forwarding

would be good, in sending it to yourself and checking if you can

see in the received message the original "Received: from.... by ..." lines.)

In addition, as a test you can try to copy/paste or save the whole email (Headers, Blank Line, and Body) to a .txt file on your local computer, and then email that .txt file as an attachment.
