I am not new to SpamCop, suddenly every bit of spam I report comes back with the same message. Why? I have not changed anything, I have all headers, subject etc. What has happened? Is it my error or have the spammers adapted in the past week?

I have read all the forum topics on this matter and none of the suggestions apply.

Sorry, but I can't believe that remark. I'm basing that on all the other 'forum topics' .. Pinned items .. FAQ entries .. etc. that were ignored in making and posting your query. Things not provided to even begin to allow someone here to help you ...

How you submit your spam for parsing

What tools, OS, connection are in use

No Tracking URL provided ... or a sample of the problem submittal

(Tracking URL defined in the Dictionary, Glossary, Wiki, entries in the SpamCop FAQ 'here')

As you are a long-time user and all of a sudden, everything is screwed up, the question would have to be ... what did you recently do at your end? This would be based on that thousands upon thousands of other users are not over-running the newsgroups or this Forum complaining that 'everything is now broken' ....

Please accept my apologies for the rude reception you got here.

If you will send me the "TRACKING URL" from the top of the SpamCop parse page when you get that error, I can tell you what the problem is. Or, I can probably figure it out if you send me your login username so I can review your report history.

Do not post your email address in this forum. Please email me directly at: service[at]admin.spamcop.net

From the FAQ here is how to find a Tracking URL

When looking at the Report Page of the Parser Results, the top of the page contains these words (your reference number will be different);

spam Header

This page may be saved for future reference:

http://www.spamcop.net/sc?id=z641303267z04...fef3b3d92488bfz

Skip to Reports

This "future reference" URL is the "Tracking URL" .... As one of the IronPort "purchase" benefits has turned out to be the addition of some serious storage capabilities, the entire spam submittal is now stored (for some time). These days, things are made much easier when asking for some review, analysis, or assistance; simply copy this provided link and use it to point to the spam submittal in your query. This way, anyone looking to try to answer the query is looking at the spam submittal as the SpamCop parsing engine saw it, thus everyone is talking about the same data.

Update: those lines in the parser output now read as;

spam Header

Here is your TRACKING URL - it may be saved for future reference:

http://www.spamcop.net/sc?id=z641303267z04...fef3b3d92488bfz

Skip to Reports

I do hope that Don will be able to help you. However, it would make things easier for him if you include the items Wazoo asked for: How you submit your spam for parsing, What tools, OS, connection is in use

Of course, since he can see a lot more than the 'users' who try to help people in this forum when there are no paid staff present, perhaps he won't need that additional information.

Yes, sorry, not intended to be rude, just to gather the necessary information (as alluded to in the "how to post" announcements at the head of every forum "here") to start to address whatever the problem is for those of us who haven't the resources (including remunerated time) and access which are at the command of SpamCopAdmin but whose attention to every query "here" is, naturally, far from assured (and, historically, confirmed to be limited).
...Do not post your email address in this forum. ...
Or in public generally, especially in "anti-spam" venues where it just might amuse a certain type of spammer to go out of their way to harvest any revealed addresses (though in these pages, at least, the forum Admin has instituted a degree of automated munging which makes automated skimming a little more difficult for them).

Thanks, but I don't need any of that stuff. It's mostly irrelevant at this point. All I need is a "TRACKING URL."

More than possible that all 'anyone needs' to at least start trying to help is a TRACKING URL .... that's why the requested data is placed in so many spots. Just like you, there is no one 'here' that can help without seeing 'any data' .... helpful in a number of cases has been 'how that data was developed' ....

Yet again, in Bold Black Letters, Pinned so as to stay where one has to scroll by/past it;

[How-to] Post a Question (and prevent stupid/rude answers)

This thing contains the following paragraph;

The Details

If it's a spam in question, do not post the spam here. Use a Tracking URL to offer a link to both the spam and the parse results. That way we're all talking about the same data.

So nice of you to stop by and state : "I need the Tracking URL" and complain about the fact that I/we said the same thing .... and made that known to someone who made a "I read everything here" type remark.

Noting that this data was pulled from only one How to ask questions references provided .... just so that no one has to waste their time asking for the data that should have been provided in the query.

Thanks for restating the obvious. I don't know what we would do without you to remind us that we're morons.

No need for you to keep blowing your own horn. We've heard it all before.

Yes, yes. We know. You never miss an opportunity to remind us, so we've pretty much come to expect you to be rude to anyone who doesn't meet your standards.

So nice of you to stop by
Not to worry, my pleasure. It has apparently fallen to me to remind you that you need to use some manners and common decency when dealing with our users. And I'm more than happy to do it.

And for some reason, the 'need' for that keeps coming up ...????

Fail to see why pointing out at the 'missing' data that is also identified in numerous places, to include the vast majority of "all the forum topics on this matter" is to be considered "rude" .... I place no "standards" on anyone. That there is no way to 'help' with absolutely no data provided is simply an impossible mission. That no data was provided does seem very odd, based on the self-stated amount of previous research accomplished.

"Today" .... HotMail has done the 'Live' thing. Yahoo has also transitioned some folks to their 'Live' thing. Ither current discussion include a specific spammer splarge. Some of this could be applicable, for example. Part of that 'missing data'

Yet again, whatever .... you asked for the same data I did. I pointed out that it needn't have to have been asked for in the first place. Again, I fail to see the cruel and inhumane treatment that you seem to find in so many places.

Looks like numerous possibilities missed to yell at me, in addition to all those other questions that you could have handled directly yourself.

Once again, this kind of stuff is rediculous to have going on in public.

Yeah, well, is Congobill ever going to be surprised when dropping by for response! Never mind Congobill, just scroll to the top and work your way down (normal sequence for forum reading), the promised assistance for you is "up there". Should you need have recourse to these (or any other) forums in future you will find that experience will be assisted by taking on board some of the pointers/clues that Wazoo, Miss Betsy and I have directed your way. Maybe you will be fortunate enough not need such assistance (through having no further problems, ever ... well, we hope).

Also, I remembered that when I first started using spamcop that I didn't realize that I had to 'copy' and save the Tracking URL in my own document. I tried numerous times to make it 'save' by clicking on it - and of course, just kept coming back to that same page.

IIRC, it took three posts in the ngs before people stopped laughing and could give me an answer. Finally, one of the kinder ones explained that I was supposed to 'copy' it for my use later.

As you can tell, I was a pretty raw newbie. However, I also remember that it was the questions that Wazoo asked that made me understand how things worked - even though I was often impatient with trying to understand what was going on, wanting a simple answer. But it wasn't long before I realized that I understood the other answers better because of the questions Wazoo asked.

It also didn't take me long to see that there were lots of 'real' individuals involved and that was fascinating. Even though, I questioned the 'method' of help at first, I very soon saw the value of having several individual users looking at a problem.

I have every sympathy for someone who can't find something in a FAQ, since I almost never can. But the idea that an answer /could/ be found is always promising!

I was tempted to split of the entire discussion begining with Post #8 and move it to the admin forum but decided against that move. In typical Don fashion he goes way overboard. The key point that he considers "rude" is

Sorry, but I can't believe that remark. ....
, but face it, it is not very easy to avoid such a reply in light of the previous
I have read all the forum topics on this matter and none of the suggestions apply.
It is hard to believe that anyone who has even done the least amount of research could have miss discovering the need to post a tracking ULR. But that brings us right back to the fact that this is a user fourm, not a customer support forum, which is apparently what Don thinks it should be. But using that logic, where is the "employee" handbook on how to respond to users. Where is the data base of answers to basic questions that is up todate. Well, if there is one, it has never been made available to the "rude" forum "staff" (none of which are paid anything for their services)

PS I actually wrote this in one of the restricted forums, but before posting it decided that some of what is said might be of interest or value to the regular users who might make the logical assumption that the Forum Admin and Moderators actually have access to information on just how things work in the world of SpamCop. The fact is that they have no more access than the newbie that just signed up. All they have is more experience in using it and a desire to help others.

This morning (my time, I live in Bangkok) I sent in two spam reports and they went exactly as they usually do, no problems. I can not explain why the errors occurred over the two days as I am unaware of any changes in the manner with which I was reporting the spam.

It seems that one or two admin-types on this forum need to increase their valium dosage.

To the others, thank you for your suggestions.

Thanks for the feedback - maybe some routing bottlenecks contributing - though connectivity this morning from Australia (west coast) is generally lousy so I'm a little surprised this is the time your problem evaporated if that was a cause. Maybe it has nothing to do with that or maybe it's just "my" server having a bad day. Anyway, you might try getting some tracert baselines while it works for comparison should the problem recur. Maybe Don could still have a look at your reporting over the problem period should you want to clear it up - but if just an isolated occurrence it is probably not worth a lot of effort.

[Added - oh, and there may be other reporting options that are more efficient for you - and maybe more reliable - if you're emailing your submissions one at a time.]

Thanks for your feedback! As a user forum, it is very important to get poster feedback so that we know how to help the next person who has a similar problem.

Of course, if Don 'solved' the problem behind scenes, we don't know now what to tell the next person so hopefully, he will come back the next time someone posts with a similar problem.

Sometimes, of course, the problem is so individual that it wouldn't help anyone else so often deputies (in the ngs anyway) reply 'answered by email'

But, probably, since nothing changed on your end and you didn't get an email from Don, it was a momentary glitch that is not likely to be repeated. If it does, please post the Tracking URL. Not me, but several regular posters are very adept at getting at the source of a problem.
