SMTP mail setup for spamcop and iPhone

I was almost sure that this would have been answered, but the search functions are either not firing on all cylinders or I'm not (very likely the latter of the two). I managed to finally wrestle IMAP out of spamcop after miserably failing at setting up a POP address, but I'm really struggling with SMTP; no matter what I try, I get an auth error. Here are my steps thus far; could someone kindly sanity-check me?

Server: smtp.cesmail.net

username: <username>[at]spamcop.net

password: <username[at]spamcop password>

Use SSL: Yes

Auth: Password

Port: 587

I'm really stumped, here. This isn't rocket science, but I must be missing something blindingly obvious. Any thoughts or other pearls of wisdom? If this has been answered somewhere else, a crosslink would be muchly appreciated.

I've looked through this link here: http://forum.spamcop.net/scwik/SmtpAuth and that didn't seem to help.

Thanks!

Hi, cschreiber,

Use SSL: Yes

<snip>

...Did you try turning off SSL?

SSL tends to NOT work for most users, though there are some that say it does work for them.

If you are having trouble getting SMTP authentication to work, make sure that SSL is turned off.

Hi, cschreiber,...Did you try turning off SSL?

Hi, thanks for the reply. I probably should have been more specific; my bad. I toggled SSL on/off and flipped the ports between 25 and 587 (in both on/off SSL switches). Sadly, no joy on either one and I still keep getting the error. I'm hoping that it's something simple that I'm missing...

Cheers

I'm somewhat surprised that nobody has mentioned here that outbound sending (SMTP services) was turned OFF for most of the CESMail customers (the SpamCop email service) almost a year ago (in November of 2012). You'll find mention of that (by me) near the end of the first pinned topic in the SpamCop Email System & Accounts forum--here's a link to that:

http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?...6825&st=80#

and in this topic in the same forum:

http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=12944

with quotes from Email Support:

http://forum.spamcop.net/forums/index.php?...2944&st=20#

You have to contact Email Support to ask that they make an exception for you. I recommend using other SMTP services, if at all possible.
