thebassman Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Just noticing a bunch of unchecked boxes when reporting spam that say: (refuses munged reports). Do you check them and send them a report, or leave them...?
Jeff G. Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 You should only check those boxes if you are not munging your reports.
Jeff G. Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Please see your selection for "SpamCop Reporting Service / Preferences / Report Handling Options / spam Munging", as well as the "munging" entry in The Net Abuse Jargon File.
thebassman Posted March 3, 2005 Author Posted March 3, 2005 Great, thanks. So, in general, a good idea or bad idea?
StevenUnderwood Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 There are mixed feelings on that. Generally, it depends on why you are munging in the first place. THere is always the chance that if you send an unmunged report, it will get into the hands of the spammer and he could whitelist your address and/or add your confirmed address to other confirmed addresses to be used later. Personally, I don't munge at all and have never had any negative fallout from that decision. I feel that I have probably been added to about the same amount of lists that I have been removed from, since my spam has increased about the same percentage as the accounts at work that do not get reported.
thebassman Posted March 3, 2005 Author Posted March 3, 2005 Yeah, that's what I figure as well... That being said, at least from the standpoint of the ISP that I work for, we don't really care either way... hmm.
