robin_hoods
Hi I have been using Lycos mail to report my spam mail and up to last week all was well I got a confirmation that the spam was received etc. However for some unknown reason this week when I forward my spam mail I keep getting a reply from spam cop as follows. SpamCop encountered errors while saving spam for processing: SpamCop could not find your spam message in this email: Received: from sc-smtp1-bulkmx.soma.ironport.com (sc-smtp1-bulkmx.soma.ironport.com [204.15.82.123]) by sc-app3.soma.ironport.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id CC8F414320 for <x>; Thu, 2 Nov 2006 07:56:09 -0800 (PST) Received: from bos-mail-smail3.bos.lycos.com (HELO smail1.lycosmail.lycos.com) ([209.202.208.43]) by sc-smtp1-bulkmx.soma.ironport.com with ESMTP; 02 Nov 2006 07:56:09 -0800 Received: from bos-mail-wwl5.lycosmail.com (bos-mail-wwl5b.bos.lycos.com [10.124.64.85]) by bos-mail-smail3.lycosmail.com (8.13.6/8.9.1) with ESMTP id kA2Fe3HX007904; Thu, 2 Nov 2006 10:40:03 -0500 Received: (from hanadmin[at]localhost) by bos-mail-wwl5.lycosmail.com (8.12.9/8.9.1) id kA2FsrPI008051 for <x>; Fri, 3 Nov 2006 00:54:53 +0900 X-Originating-IP: [82.20.209.213] From: "Robin Hoods" Organization: Lycos. DavidT
Whoa, pardner....you've posted way too much information! Not only have you posted your email address, but more importanly, your SpamCop report submission address, which can make it worthless because these forums are constantly monitored and harvested by web spiders/bots, both good and bad. I've alerted the moderators and hopefully one will be by soon to redact the sensitive info, but perhaps you could remove the email details above yourself? on edit: Thanks, Farelf! Farelf
Hi I have been using Lycos mail to report my spam mail and up to last week all was well I got a confirmation that the spam was received etc. However for some unknown reason this week when I forward my spam mail I keep getting a reply from spam cop as follows. SpamCop encountered errors while saving spam for processing: SpamCop could not find your spam message in this email:... First priority. Oh dear, I think this is a new record for the number of times a confidential SC submit address has been revealed in a single posting. I think I have removed it too late for there to be any hope it has not been compromised. Please contact SC admin - service[at]admin.spamcop.net - through your registered address for a new submit address, quoting your existing one, telling him you inadvertently posted it in public. He will set you up with a new one, stop using the old one. Your original query - if you check your past reports (through the tab on your member page) I think you will find the original spam was successfully reported. Maybe you are now attempting to report the SC confirmation or something - your submit address certainly does not belong in the headers that many times, something "recursive" is going on. Wazoo
Split out from the Topic chosen to post into .. this issue has no apparent connection to someone else's "reporting via Outlook" issue beyond the same error message ....
SpamCopAdmin
Handled by email. She's getting an error message because the headers are missing from the spam submission. Unfotunately, I don't know why that's suddenly happening now, when it didn't before. - Don -

Unfotunately, I don't know why that's suddenly happening now, when it didn't before. ...Just a wild guess, but I'd guess that her e-mail provider changed something (unless she changed how she submits).
Can you tell me why this is happening as I am not doing anything different this week in reporting spam as I did last week??????? Okay, I was on entirely the wrong track - Don (SpamCopAdmin) put his finger on the problem, Steve (turetzsr) nominated the cause(s). It is likely that Lycos have changed their configuration. Most providers pass on the details of the server they receive mail from in the "Received: from ..." header lines. Lycos appears not to be doing that for the originating source in the sample shown. Given is "X-Originating-IP: [82.20.209.213]" but that is ignored by the parser whch needs the "chain of custody" handover details. I am still not reading the headers right (seems to me your confidential spam submitted address - now shown by six lots of "<x>" appears far too many times). But it's a start.
