Doesn't quite have the same ring as "handle the issue" ... The storyline just offered ... "been getting reports" .... "now getting summary reports" ... and apparently "expect to continue getting reports" ..... not setting up a good position that will be looked on favorably by the folks that would make the decision, database updates, etc. At this point, there's even a question as to whether or not to get excited by the fact that there's yet another ISP simply forwarding complaints with no action taken. My ISP presumably did when they were sending me reports... 31553[/snapback] The reason you are getting spamcop reports is that users are receiving spam from that IP address. There are various reasons that users may get spam from that IP address. The IP address may be allowing the sending of spam by a spammer. The IP address may have a mailing list that is unconfirmed and so is sending email to people who have not signed up. The computer may have a trojan and is sending spam without the knowledge of the server administrator. The computer has a virus, is sending auto replies, or is accepting email and sending 'bounces' to forged return path addresses. In all the above cases, the only appropriate 'response' to a reporter is "Thank you for alerting us to this problem. It is now fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience." If you get more than one spamcop report, then it is probably one of the above. In rare cases, a reporter will report as spam something that isn't spam. In that case, you can reply to the return path (which is the report id number and which is forwarded to the reporter) and explain why you think they made a mistake. If you do it nicely, the reporter will reply to you with an apology and make it right with spamcop. Since apparently you are getting numerous spamcop reports, you probably have a problem. Few reporters will respond to someone who doesn't know what spam is and how it is transmitted and doesn't respond to a spamcop report by fixing the problem. And almost no reporters will respond to an attempt to take their email address off your list (that is called listwashing). The point of spamcop is to tell the administrators of computers that are sending unsolicited email that this email is not welcome and to prevent others from receiving this unwelcome email. Many administrators will stop the sending of unsolicited email - some because they want to be responsible netizens; others because they don't want to have all email from that IP address blocked. There are others whoever simply want to stop getting spamcop reports and attempt to take spamcop reporters off their lists. I hope you can see why reporters will not cooperate.
